Chapter 2. Initial Setup
To help with the initial process of configuring your switch, the IBM Networking OS
software includes a Setup utility. The Setup utility prompts you step-by-step to enter
all the necessary information for basic configuration of the switch.
Whenever you log in as the system administrator under the factory default
configuration, you are asked whether you wish to run the Setup utility. Setup can
also be activated manually from the command line interface any time after login.
Information Needed for Setup
Setup requests the following information:
• Basic system information
–Date & time
– Whether to use Spanning Tree Group or not
• Optional configuration for each port
– Speed, duplex, flow control, and negotiation mode (as appropriate)
– Whether to use VLAN tagging or not (as appropriate)
• Optional configuration for each VLAN
– Name of VLAN
– Which ports are included in the VLAN
• Optional configuration of IP parameters
– IP address/mask and VLAN for each IP interface
– IP addresses for default gateway
– Whether IP forwarding is enabled or not
Default Setup Options
The Setup prompt appears automatically whenever you login as the system
administrator under the factory default settings.
1. Connect to the switch.
After connecting, the login prompt appears.
2. Enter admin as the default administrator password.
If the factory default configuration is detected, the system prompts:

The switch is booted with factory default configuration.
To ease the configuration of the switch, a "Set Up" facility which
will prompt you with those configuration items that are essential to
the operation of the switch is provided.
