Depending on the model there are various
numbers of water inlet valves and they may be
dual coil or singe coil inlet valves. At the time
of this printing all inlet valves for MXR washers
are of the Elbi-Bitron® type. Part numbers for
the inlet valves are: 3-way valve #W10712646
and 4-way valve #W10712721. A replaceable
diaphragm Kit, Part #23003442, has only 1
diaphragm in it.
Checking for a failed diaphragm, disconnect
power to the washer. Open the top, determine
the valve that needs to be checked or check
all of them. Remove the clamp from the outlet
side of the valve(s) and see if water is coming
through the valve. No water should be coming
through the valve with the power turned off. If
water is passing through then that diaphragm
needs to be replaced, or the entire valve
should be replaced.
If a coil has failed, it will not allow water to
pass, once energized. This can be due to an
open circuit in the valve coil or the coil is too
weak to pull the diaphragm and allow water
to pass. If the solenoid is activated, the coil
should be giving off a slight vibration from the
buzzing coil.
Turn off power and remove the wire
connectors from the solenoid and check
resistance across the two terminals of the
solenoid. The resistance found should be
approximately 4,600 (4.6K) Ohms. If the
reading is an open circuit (innite Ω) or varies
from what is shown here by more than 10%,
replace the water inlet valve.
There are screens in the inlet nipples,
accessed from the back of the washer, that
may become clogged. Remove the hoses to
check these screens.
Usually an occasional cleaning of the valve
is all that is needed to maintain proper valve
operation. In areas with high chlorine content
in the water supply the rubber diaphragm
may be affected. Replacement diaphragms
diaphragms. Diaphragm part number
23003442. It is often more economical
to replace the entire valve that to use
the valve without having to remove the valve
