CHAPTER 10

FM MENU BASIC MODE
Multiband Menu
The controls of the Multiband menu work in a similar fashion to their counterparts in the Gain Riding menu but (as the
sharper students in the class may have already surmised) work on Omnia.9’s multiband AGC section.
The Multiband AGC Range control sets the total amount of available multiband gain. Setting this control too high
may provide too much room for low level audio to be raised up. Setting it too low may not provide enough gain to
increase low incoming levels. It may also cause individual bands to run out of gain before others which in turn can cause
inconsistencies in the overall spectral balance.
The Multiband AGC Power control adjusts the ratio of the multiband AGC’s. Advancing the control tightens the ratio
and provides more consistency, while sliding the control to the left loosens the ratio and yields a more open sound.
Multiband AGC Speed simultaneously adjusts the attack and release rates of all bands of the multiband AGC’s. Higher
settings translate to faster attack and release rates, though actual attack and release speeds are program dependent.
The optional Multiband Compression switch enables a multiband compression section integrated into the multiband
AGC and multiband limiters. These operate faster than the multiband AGC’s, adding “bite” that some find desirable.
When enabled, the Multiband Compression Drive control adjusts the amount of compression. Higher settings
provide more compression. Be careful about using too much compression as the sound can become flat and fatiguing.
Lower settings provide a more open compression sound. On the Multiband meters, the compression can be seen as an
additional bargraph, below the AGC bargraphs that are a darker shade of yellow/orange.
The Multiband Compression Threshold control sets the point where compression starts for a given Drive setting,
relative to the multiband AGC’s. Higher settings allow the compression component to be a greater percentage of the
overall processing.
