Configuring the Appliance for the First Time
This section contains first-time configuration procedures for Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance.
Follow these steps to complete first-time configuration:
1. Ensure you have completed cabling, including the serial or network cabling for Oracle
ILOM connectivity, as described in “Cabling the Appliance” on page 219.
2. Configure the system through Oracle ILOM. See “Configuring the System” on page 238.
Note - After system configuration, a network device and its associated datalink and
interface are automatically created with administrative access. You can add interfaces,
and add or change administrative access to other interfaces during and after initial
configuration.
3. For a standalone controller, complete initial configuration using the browser user interface
(BUI) or the command line interface (CLI). For a clustered controller, it is strongly
recommended to use the BUI.

“Performing Initial Configuration (CLI)” on page 256
For an overview of network interface configuration, see “Network Configuration” in Oracle
ZFS Storage Appliance Administration Guide, Release OS8.8.x.
4. If you did not set a management interface during initial configuration, set it now using
the tasks in “Configuring Management Interfaces” in Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance
Administration Guide, Release OS8.8.x.
5. For clustered controllers, lock the management interfaces:

6. Upgrade your controller software to the latest release using the procedures in “Upgrading
the Software” in Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance Customer Service Manual.
