10 Cleaning and disinfection
1. As debris buildup typically occurs on the areas around the PFA test
cartridges, remove the PFA test cartridges before starting disinfection:
2. Make sure that testing is completed and the carousel has moved to load
position.
3. Remove the cassette carefully from the carousel.
4. Holding the cassette in one hand, remove the PFA test cartridge(s) by
gently pulling the bottom of the PFA test cartridge toward you until it
unsnaps.
5. Dispose of the PFA test cartridge(s) in a suitable biohazard waste
container.
After having removed the PFA test cartridge(s):
6. Set the power switch on the back of the analyzer to off.
7. Pull out the mains plug from the AC outlet.
8. Unplug the power cord at the back of the analyzer.
9. Apply disinfectant solution on areas where there is visible contamination
with blood, blood products or other body fluids.
10. If heavy buildup is visible, soften the debris by applying disinfectant
solution on the area, letting it sit, then wiping up with a paper towel or
other absorbent material.
11. Apply disinfectant solution on the area again and allow it to sit for
20 minutes.
12. Apply disinfectant solution to all external surfaces and allow it to sit for
20 minutes, then rinse with distilled or deionized water.
13. Dispose of used paper towels or other wiping material in a suitable
biohazard waste container.
Note: Use a commercial disinfectant solution, e.g. Mikrozid.
Wherever possible, use a wipe method instead of a spray method to
apply the disinfectant solution.
If a spray method is used, ensure that droplets of solution, rather than
a mist, are expelled from the container.
