10 Cleaning and disinfection
This chapter contains information about:
Regular cleaning of the analyzer (Chapter 10.1)
Disinfecting the analyzer (Chapter 10.2)
10.1 Cleaning the analyzer
The exterior of the PFA-100 System can be cleaned by wiping with a damp
cloth containing a commercial disinfectant solution, e.g. Mikrozid. To
remove blood stains use a damp cloth containing water. Do not immerse or
pour liquid onto analyzer. It is recommended to maintain the type code black
pad clean. This pad resides on the surface of the carousel underneath the
cassette.
For cleaning the O-Ring refer to Chapter 11.3.
10.2 Disinfecting the analyzer
To disinfect the analyzer, proceed as follows:
NOTICE
Sterilization will damage the analyzer.
Never use methods of cleaning and disinfection other than those described
in this manual.
Note: The recommeded disinfection interval for the analyzer and used
parts (e.g. cassette) is daily after work.
Note: The analyzer has to be disinfected by qualified laboratory
personnel only.
WARNING
Infection by contaminated parts of the analyzer.
Death or serious injury can result.
Make sure to disinfect the analyzer in an area designated as a
biohazard area.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, that is, gloves,
protective clothing, safety glasses, and mask.
Pay attention to the manufacturer's information regarding the gloves'
compatibility with the materials and liquids used.
