WORK CHUCK GRINDING
CHUCK GRIND MODE
The chuck grind mode may be used for two specific functions: 1) to
grind the work chuck and 2) to dress either grinding wheel with a
dressing disk. The functions for manual machine control are the
same in the chuck grind mode as in the manual jog mode.
However, the feed rates are limited to speeds compatible with
grinding to perform the grinding and dressing functions. Also, the
grind spindle and work chuck will rotate and the wheel coolant
turned on for grinding.
The chuck grind mode may be accessed from either the main
menu or directly from the manual jog mode. Pushing the "6" key
from either of these modes will start both spindles and the coolant.
Since all jog motion is slow in the chuck grind mode both axis
positions should first be setup in the manual jog mode. Once in
the manual jog or chuck grind modes pressing the [R] key to return
to the main menu will the cause the grind spindle to move to a
predetermined height. This could cause the wheels to move up
away from the desired position for chuck grinding or cause the
wheels to run into the dressing disk if the disk thickness is greater
than the assigned height.
For these reasons it is best to first setup both axis positions in the
manual jog mode, press "6" to start the chuck grind mode, perform
the desired grind operation, then press "5" to return to the manual
jog mode. This will turn off both spindles and the coolant and allow
for moving the work chuck out to eliminate any possible
interference.
