Operation and Maintenance Manual Model 7AA Wafer Grinder

MACHINE DIAGNOSTICS
The machine diagnostics provides for evaluating any program
line in the machine operating software in real time. This allows
maintenance personnel to check inputs, outputs, internal logic,
servos and other computer functions for troubleshooting. The
software for this diagnostic routine is supplied by the
manufacturer of the programmable control (Giddings and Lewis
Electronics) as "Real Time Debug" (RTD). The details of RTD
operation are outside the scope of this manual. A detailed
description of the functions available in RTD and how to
implement them is contained in the Giddings and Lewis manual
supplied with the machine.
Communicating with RTD requires an ASCII terminal device.
This includes a personal computer, dumb terminal, or ASCII
keypad. Personal computers require terminal emulation
software to communicate as an ASCII terminal. An interface
cable compatible with RS232C standards connects the device
serial port to the RS232C interface module supplied with the
machine. For personal computers or terminals it is best to
direct the RTD display to the device. This is done by pressing
the [R] key on the operator keypad followed by the [D] key with
the keyswitch in the "PROG" position. For ASCII keypads the
display must be directed to the machine CRT. This is done by
pressing the [9] key in the machine operation menu with the
keyswitch in the "PROG" position. To return to the machine
operation menu press the [.] key.
Once communication is established between the machine and
external device the functions of RTD can be implemented
according to instructions outlined in the Giddings and Lewis
manual.
