Operation and Maintenance Manual Model 7AA Wafer Grinder
1 - 28 U Version 1.2 - April 18, 1996; Update 11/6/96
Reactivity Warnings
When heated, germanium is incompatible with bromine, chlorine,
fluorine, oxygen, potassium chloride, and potassium. Additionally,
mixing with aqua regia, concentrated nitric or sulfuric acids, fused
alkalies, nitrates or carbonates, halogens, and oxidants should be
avoided. When germanium decomposes, germanium dioxide is
formed.
WARNING: Germanium may be a fire hazard if ground to a fine
powder. When germanium is in this state, it ignites
and burns on contact in chlorine or bromine.
WARNING: Do not heat germanium with potassium chlorate or
potassium nitrate. An explosive reaction may occur.
A violent reaction may occur with nitric acid.
WARNING: When heated with oxygen or potassium hydroxide,
an incandescent reaction occurs.
See Section 6 of the germanium MSDS for additional information.
