8. Check the top cover and diaphragm ( Figure 26)
fo r damage and deterioration and replace as
necessary.
9. Inspect the threads in the bore ( Figure 21 ) for
the union bolt.
If worn or damaged. clean out with
a thread
lap or replace the master cy linder
assembl
y.
10. Check the hand lever pivot lugs ( Figur e 28)
on the maSler cylinder body for cracks. If damaged.
replace the master cylinder assembly.
II. Make sure the opening ( Figure 29) in the union
bolt is clear. Clean out
if necessary.
Assembly
I. Soak the new cups in fresh brake nuid for at
least 15 minutes to make them pliable. Coat the
in s id e of the cylinder bore with fresh hydraulic
nuid before assembling parts.
CAUTION
Wh en insf(llfin8 fhe pis/on assembly. (io
li ar allow the cups IQ tum jll si(ie QUI as
Lhey will be damaged and allow brake
fluid leakage within the cylinder bore.
2. Position the sp ring with the tapered cnd (C.
Figure 24) facing toward the primary cup on the
piston.
3. Install the spring and piston assembly into the
cy linder together ( Figure 21 ),
4. In Slall the circlip (Figure 20).
5. Position the ru bber bool with the raised rib
(
Figur e 30 ) going on first and slide in the rubber
boot.

6. In stall the diaphragm ( Figur e 18 ) and lOp cover r;;;...
(Figure 17 ). Do not tighten the cover screws at this ®
lime as hydraulic fluid will have to be added Ial er
whcl1 the system is bled.
7. Install the brake light switch. washers. /'Z;\29
lockwashcrs and screws to the master cylinder. \!!)
Tighten the sc rews securely.
8. In stall the ma St er cy linder as described in this
chapter.
