Programmable Automatic Periodic Status
On the Epic Edge™, status may be automatically generated, without the need to ask the
printer for specific status information. This function is enabled by setting printer dip
switch 7 to the active position.
The frequency of the status reporting is configurable, and can be set via two frequency
parameters:
the frequency when the printer is idle, and
the frequency when the printer is busy
In addition to the frequency of the status reporting, the items that are reported are
configurable. Both status frequency and content are determined by setting in the printer
POR.INI file. Information regarding the structure of this file is contained in the Epic Edge
Maintenance Mode manual.
Each status record sent to the host is preceded by an ID byte, and the high bit of this ID
byte is always set. This bit allows for an easy way to determine the start of a status
segment. Status records can consist of an ID byte and several data bytes. The same
number of data bytes always follows each specific ID byte, and this format consistency
allows the host system to know how many bytes to look for after the ID byte is observed.
The table below lists all status IDs currently defined and available. Other status IDs may
be added in the future. While you cannot create your own status records, TransAct may
add more such records in the future; to request consideration for specific additional
status information, please contact TransAct technical support.
Note: Hexadecimal numbers are represented throughout this document in the form
0xnn, where nn is the hexadecimal value.
