REMOVING THE STARTER MOTOR
PINION
Remove:
• Armature
• Starter motor pinion
NOTE:
Do not make the armature gripped in a vise
directly, or the armature may be damaged.
Removing Steps
(1) Grip the armature assembly in a vise.
(2) Loosen the nut.
(3) Remove the starter motor pinion.
(4) Remove the armature from the vise.
CHECKING THE STARTER MOTOR
PINION
1. C h eck :
• Starter motor pinion teeth
Damage/wear → Replace.
2. Check:
• Starter motor pinion assembly move-
ment
Incorrect → Replace.
NOTE:
Rotate the starter motor pinion clockwise
and make sure it moves smoothly. Also,
rotate the starter motor pinion counter-
clockwise and make sure it locks.
CHECKING THE ARMATURE
1. C h e ck:
• Commutator
Foreign matter → Clean.
(with 600 grit sandpaper)
