Chapter 3 Safety Directions
The GRP System FX concept is designed to be used on the tracks of a railway. There
are inherent dangers in working in this environment. There are also some safety measures
regarding the GRP System FX. It is essential to read these safety instructions carefully.
It is essential to consider the local safety regulations as well as the safety regulations
in this manual!
The following directions should enable the person responsible for the GRP System FX and the
operator to anticipate and avoid operational hazards. The person responsible for the instrument
must ensure that all users understand theses directions and adhere them.
Read this manual and the manuals of the other system components and accessories carefully
before you activate the instrument.
3.1 Use of instrument
3.1.1 Intended use of instrument
The GRP System FX is designed and suitable for the following applications, within the limits
of its intended conditions of use:
Measurement of stationing, gauge and super elevation (cant) of a railway track.
Recording the measurements on a control computer.
Measuring the relative and absolute track geometry in combination with a Leica total station,
a Leica GNSS system or IMU technology (AMU 1030, AMU 2010 and AMU 2030).
Measuring control points, profiles or single object points with the integrated Profiler FX
(system configuration GRP/VMS/IMS 3000).
Measuring the track surrounding and surfaces with the integrated high-speed laser scanner
(system configuration GRP/IMS 5000).
3.1.2 Prohibited uses
Use of the instrument without instruction.
Use others than the recommended applications for which the instrument is intended.
Deactivation of safety systems and removal of hazard notices.
Unauthorised disassembly unless expressly permitted for certain operations.
Use after misappropriation.
Use of accessories from other manufacturers without the express approval of Amberg
Technologies.
Aiming the Profiler FX view finder directly at the sun.
Use with inadequate safety facilities on the survey site (e.g. when surveying in traffic or on
a construction site).
Prohibited use can lead to injury, malfunction and damage. It is the task of the person
responsible for the instrument to inform the operator of potential hazards and how to
counteract them. The Profiler FX / high-speed laser-scanner is not to be operated until
the user has received instruction.
