Operation User manual
5.5 Absolute positioning with the total station
5.5.1 Selection of the prism
The prism is installed on the prism column GPC 100 (configuration GRP 1000) / on the Profiler
FX (configuration GRP 3000) / on the high-speed laser scanner (configuration GRP 5000). It
is recommended to use a prism type GPH1 or GPH1P. A 360° prism provides less measuring
accuracy.
5.5.2 Radio modem communication
The total station communicates with the trolley TGS FX by supported Leica radio modems. The
rover modem is installed in the trolley and the base unit is attached to the total station.
5.6 Absolute positioning with GNSS
Please follow the instructions and rules of the Leica GNSS manuals to receive GNSS
measurements of high quality.
5.7 Setting up the total station
5.7.1 Optimal survey geometry
Always observe the correct surveying principles when you select the location for the installation
of the total station.
5.7.2 Atmospheric influences
Always observe the base principles and rules for surveying. Take into account the
influence of air pressure, air temperature and refraction of the optical line of sight.
Read the corresponding theories and observe the precautions in order to increase the
measuring accuracy.
5.7.3 Control points
You should use a control point network of a high quality.
5.8 Measurement on the track
5.8.1 Commissioning of the trolley on the track
Before lifting the trolley onto the track, check the following:
■
Measuring system is assembled properly and all screws are tightened. See Section 4.1,
“Assembly of the track trolley TGS FX” on page 43.
■
All necessary safety measures are in place. See Chapter 3, Safety Directions on page 31.
■
The gauge measuring wheel is in the retracted position.
Now lift the trolley onto the track and proceed as indicated:
■
Release the gauge measuring wheel
■
Check that both flanges of the two wheel part are flush against the rail
