2-7 VNA Master Connectors
External Trigger In (50 ohm)
A TTL signal that is applied to the External Trigger In female BNC input connector causes a
single sweep to occur. Maximum input is ±50 VDC. In the Spectrum Analyzer mode, it is used
in zero span, and triggering occurs on the rising edge of the signal. After the sweep is
complete, the resultant trace is displayed until the next trigger signal arrives (refer to item
“2” in Figure 2-9 on page 2-13).
To prevent damage to your instrument, do not use pliers or a wrench to tighten the BNC
connector. Do not overtighten the connector.
External Reference In (50 ohm)
The BNC female connector (refer to item “1” in Figure 2-9 on page 2-13) is used for connection
of an external frequency reference. Maximum input is ±5 VDC. Press the External Reference
soft key under the System menu and then the Application Options menu to set the reference
to external (10 MHz). The amplitude of the External Reference should be between –10 dBm
and +10 dBm.
To prevent damage to your instrument, do not use pliers or a wrench to tighten the BNC
connector. Do not overtighten the connector.
RF In (50 ohm)
This connector (refer to item “3” in Figure 2-9 on page 2-13) provides the input 50 ohm
interface for the Spectrum Analyzer function. Maximum input is specified in the Technical
Data Sheet (for the Anritsu part number, refer to Appendix A).
To prevent damage to your instrument, do not use pliers or a plain wrench to tighten the
Type-N connector. Do not overtighten the connector. The recommended torque is 12 lbf·in to
15 lbf·in (1.36 N·m to 1.70 N·m).
GPS Antenna Connector (Option 31)
The GPS antenna connection on the VNA Master is type SMA-female (refer to item “5” in
Figure 2-9 on page 2-13). The GPS function is described in Chapter 6, “GPS (Option 31) ”.
To prevent damage to your instrument, do not use pliers or a plain wrench to tighten the
SMA connector. Do not overtighten the connector. The recommended torque is 8 lbf·in
(0.9 N·m or 90 N·cm).
VNA Port-1 (50 ohm)
This connector (refer to item “10” in Figure 2-9 on page 2-13) provides the input/output
50 ohm interface for reflection measurements of the Vector Network Analyzer at Port 1.
To prevent damage to your instrument, do not use pliers or a plain wrench to tighten the
Type-N connector. Do not overtighten the connector. The recommended torque is 12 lbf·in to
15 lbf·in (1.36 N·m to 1.70 N·m).
