Chapter 3. Eclipse Edge Installation
5. Beginning at the ODU body, wrap, mold and smooth butyl tape over the butyl
strips, over the vinyl tape, to a point at least 25 mm past the vinyl tape, onto the
ODU cable sheath. This is the primary weatherproof layer.
Check to ensure the integrity of this layer - it must provide a water-tight seal from
the ODU body down past the initial vinyl wrap and onto the cable sheath.
6. Wrap two layers of vinyl tape with a minimum 50% tape overlay on each layer.
- The first layer must extend ~25mm past the butyl wrap.
- The second layer must extend ~25 mm past the first vinyl layer.
These layers protect the butyl tape from the effects of long-term UV exposure.
Use a tight wrap - but not so tight that it displaces the butyl tape. To avoid curl-back
on the top layer, do not stretch the last few turns of tape. Squeeze the completed
tape wrapping to ensure the layers are firm.
