9.2 Crop the image
About
Main menu Picture Adv anced Cropping
Cropping is used to manage image loss and/or letterboxing when the aspect ratio of the projector display and the image source do
not m atch.
The crop can on ly be applied to the image’s vertical position, that is the top and bottom of the image.
The default setting for the crop function is disabled; all cropping functions are turned off and the d isplay aspect is set via the aspect
menu (see "Choose an aspect r atio", page 80).
There are 3 c rop m odes: preset, auto and manual.
All cropping is done dynamically. For best results we recommend you pause the m ovie on the screen, making
sure any subtitles or text are visible, and then activate the cropping function from the menu, Main menu
Picture Advanced Cropping.
Preset crop mode
In Preset mode, the image is altered without cons traints to ll the display aspect. Available aspects are:
16:9
1.85:1
2.35:1
2.37:1
2.40:1
In this mod e t he image is adjusted to ll the frame, and may not be proportionally correct.
Auto c rop mode
In Auto mode, the projector analyses the top area of the imag e for letterbox bars a
nd automatically calculates the ideal crop location.
The crop is equally applied to the top and bottom o f the image.
The auto crop algorithm as sumes that the top and bottom of the image are identical.
Manual crop mode
Manual mode allows the user to manually input the nu mber of lines (top and/or bottom) that w ill be cropped from the ima ge. This is
ideal for lms or videos where text or sub titles appear in the upper or lower letterbox bars .
To calculate a manual crop v alue, use the following equation:
Vertical resolution (Horizontal resolution ÷ aspect ratio) = crop value.
The projector has a native display aspect of 16:9 (1920x1080) but the movie you w ant to display has a native resolution of aspect
ratio of 2.4:1 (2560x1080). The movie subtitles are located in the lower letterbox, and some of the text is missing when the m ovie
is displayed in its native aspec t.
The crop value calculation will look like this: 1080 (1920 ÷ 2.4 = 800) = 280.
280 is the total number of lines that shall be cropped. How that value is distributed over the upper and lower letterbox bars can be
affected b y details such as location of subtitles and should be decided on a case-by-case basis.
