At
this point the intercept angle
will
gradually
decrease
until
the
needle is centered and the
airplane heading
is the same as
the
selected
Omni
Bearing.
lt the intercept angle should exceed
45°,
this
can
be
reduced and performance improved by use
of
the Roll Trim Lever located
below
the
TURN knob.
The Directional Gyro
1hat is used
in
conjunction
with
Omni
lock
will
permit
any
heading change
desired up to a
full
180°.
To
compensate for crosswind the airplane
will
fly
at a
crabanglewith
respectto
the Directional Gyro
Course Card setting and
the
Omni
needle
will
remain to one side
of
center
up to several de-
grees, depending on
wind
velocity and direction.
if it is desired to
fly
with
the
Omni
needle centered,
the
D.
G.
Course Card should be
turned
to align
with
the
D.
G.
Heading Card.
When the
Autopilot
is coupled to
COMM-NAV
equipment (in lieu
of
only
NAV
equipment), the
Omni
lock
is automatica!ly neutralized
whenever
the microphone
button
is
depressed.
When
this
occurs. the airplane
will
maintain
the heading set
on
the
D.
G.
Course Card.
NOTE
This Omni
lock
is to
be
used only as
an
aid
in
flying the Omni-Directional Navigation Range.
lt is not to
be
used
without
normal pilot cross-
reference to the basic navigational
in-
strumentation.
