10.2 Gravity Heater Tank De-Scale Procedure
To maintain correct water levels and water temperature the gravity heater tank must be
inspected regularly and if necessary be de-scaled. To ensure long and trouble-free
operaon Crane Merchandising Systems recommend that all machines have a water lter
ed.
There are a number of ways of de-scaling the Gravity tank. The tank can be removed and
scraped out with a blunt tool but it can also be le inside the machine and a de-scaling
agent introduced into the tank. This eliminates the need to remove the thermistor, water
level probe and all the outlet valves from the tank saving me and money. Always
remember to t a new water lter and boiler seal aer de-scaling.
Use the following steps as a guideline only and always refer to the instrucons supplied
with the de-scaling agents regarding dosage and de-scaling me.
1. Switch o the machine and open the door. Remove all canisters and back covers.
2. Drain all the water from the tank.
Safety First! The water from the tank will be hot.
3. Once all of the water has drained from the tank replace the bung into the drain hose.
Introduce the de-scaling soluon in the recommended dosage into the heater tank
and allow the heater tank to ll.
4. Turn o the machine and leave for approximately 40 minutes before draining the tank
again.
5. Fit a new water lter and switch on the machine. Fill the tank and drain again unl all
traces of the de-scaler are removed (at least 3 mes).
6. Switch on the machine and allow the heater tank to ll and to heat up. Drain and ll
one more me. The machine is now ready to be put back in service.
10.3 System Drain Down - Espresso Machines
Should it become necessary for the engineer to do any work on the Espresso water system
it is very important that the following sequence is followed to ensure safe working as well
as correct system ll and heang when the machine is powered up.
10.3.1 Cooling down the Espresso system
1. Open the front door and press ‘CoEx® Boiler Cool Down’ on the display.
Approximately 30 ozof hot water will be ushed through the system ensure you have a
suitable container in the correct place to catch it.
Important: Pressing ‘Machine Cool Down’ or ‘CoEx® Boiler Cool Down’ also informs the
machine soware that the Espresso system has been drained ensuring that the Espresso
system will automacally ll before heang on power up. This is very important and
must not be overlooked.
2. Once the Espresso system has been cooled the LCD will display the message ‘Machine
cooled’ and water will stop pumping through the system. Ensure all pipes etc. are
reed correctly.
