CAUTION: PUMP ORIENTATION
Risk of damage to equipment. The pump must be orientated only in a horizontal or
vercal posion. Incorrect orientaon can cause failure of the pump.
When you store the pump, the pump body has to be horizontally in line with or
below the main inlet ange of the pump.
If the pump is operated or stored with the pump body above the main inlet ange, it
can cause oil leakage from the reservoir at the base of the pump to the pump
mechanism or to the vacuum system. This can decrease the performance of the
pump and life of the bearing.
Refer to Figure: Allowable pump orientaon on page 40 for permied pump orientaon.
Make sure that the pump inlet and all components installed to the pump inlet are clean
and dustfree. Failure to do so can increase the pumpdown me.
The inlet connecons for the pumps are of ISO ange, CF ange or NW40 ange.
If the pump has a CF ange, use the copper compression gasket supplied with the
pump. Use all supplied bolts to connect the inlet ange of the pump to the vacuum
system. A minimum grade screw of ISO898-1 class 5.6 (500 MPa tensile strength) is
recommended.
If the pump has an ISO ange, use a manufacturer's combinaon inlet
screen / trapped O- ring supplied with the pump. Use minimum four claw clamps
(each torqued to 10 Nm) to connect the inlet ange of the pump to the vacuum
system.
You can also use a rotatable collar and the combinaon inlet screen and trapped
Oring supplied with the pump to connect the inlet ange of the pump to the
vacuum system. Use all supplied bolts of minimum ISO class 5.6 (torqued to 10
Nm) with the rotatable collar for the installaon.
If the pump has an NW ange, use the centring ring supplied with the pump and a metal
NW clamp to connect the inlet ange of the pump to the vacuum system. Install the
base of the pump to a rigid support as given in Base mounng on page 38.
Tighten all inlet ange bolts again when the system is under vacuum. Make sure that
torques or other forces are not transmied to the pump from the vacuum system or the
related pipelines.
