TheElectrostaticDischarge(ESD)wriststrapmustbeattachedbeforehandlingthepower
supplies,fantray,fabriccard,andlinecardsusedintheK6chassis.Inaddition,observeall
precautionswhenhandlingthesemodulestopreventdamagefromelectrostaticdischarge.
PlacetheESDwriststraponyourwristandplug
theotherendintothegroundingreceptacle,at
thetoprightcornerofthechassis,showninFigure 3‐11.

K‐AC‐PS‐1400Wpowersuppliesprovidetwopoweroutputlevelsrelativetotheinputpower
source.Thepowersuppliesdraweither120Vac12Aor240Vac10Aservice.EachK‐AC‐PS‐1400W
powersupplyrequiresadedicated100–240Vac,15Ampearth‐groundedcircuit. Powercords
shippedwith
thisunitarecountry‐dependent.Eachpowercordmustbepluggedintoan
independentpowercircuit.
AsyouaddlinecardstotheK6chassis,youmayberequiredtoinstallmorepowersupplies.
Additionalpowersuppliescanbeinstalledtoprovideredundancy.Thiswouldrequire
incrementalpowerbeaddedto
thebasepowerrequirementsofthechassisanditscomponents,
dependingonthepowerredundancyyouwanttosupport.
Inaredundantpowerconfiguration,whenatleasttwopowersuppliesareinstalled,thepower
fromeachisevenlydistributed.Ifonepowersupplyfails,thesecondpowersupplyassumesthe
load.
Additionalpowersuppliessharetheloadasrequired.
BeawarethatwhenyoureceiveyourK6chassis,acoverplatewillbeinplaceoverallpower
supplyslotsexceptPS1.
Power Supply Planning
Althougheachpowersupplyrequiresitsowncircuit,whenplanningtheK6chassispowerbudget
youhavetheoptionofdrawingfromoneormoresourcesbyeithertheN+1or1+1method,
respectively.
