Allocation of PoE Power to Devices
YoucaninstalluptofourK‐AC‐PS‐1400WpowersuppliesintheK6chassis.EachK‐AC‐PS‐
1400WpowersupplyinstalledintheK6chassisprovidesfrom400watts(at120V)to800watts(at
240V)ofPoEpowertopowereddevices(PDs)attachedtothe10/100/1000Mbps
RJ45portsonthe
installedK‐Serieslinecards.
ForadditionalPoEpower,youcanconnectoneK‐AC‐PS‐1400Wpowersupply,installedinaK‐
POE‐4BAYPoEshelf,totheK6chassis.ThisK‐AC‐PS‐1400Wpowersupplyalsoprovidesfrom
400watts(at120V)to
800watts(at240V)ofadditionalPoEpowerforpowereddevices(PDs)
attachedtothe10/100/1000MbpsRJ45portsontheinstalled K‐Serieslinecards.
TheK‐SeriesfirmwaredeterminesthepoweravailableforPoEbasedonpowersupplystatusand
powersupplyredundancymode.Whenanychangeismade
tothepowersupplystatusor
redundancymode,thefirmwarerecalculatesthepoweravailableforPoE.
ThepoweravailableforPoEisdistributedbasedontheconfiguredallocationmode:
• Automaticmode(default),inwhichavailablepowerisdistributedev enly.Anychangein
availablepower,duetoachangeinpowersupply
statusorredundancymode,willtriggeran
automaticredistributionofpower.
• Manualmode,inwhichthepowerbudgetismanuallyconfigured,usingeitherCLI
commandsortheMIBs.Thewattageconfiguredcannotexceedthetotalpoweravailableon
theswitchforPoE.
Theconfiguredwattageassignmentisusedtocalculate
thetotalavailablePoEpower.Ifthe
totalavailablePoEpowerchanges,aredistributionofavailablepowerwilloccur,applyingthe
calculatedpercentage.
IfthePoEpowerneededorrequestedexceedsthepoweravailable,thesystemwillgenerateatrap
tonotifythesystemmanager.

Management of PoE Power to PDs
YoucanconfigurehowtheK‐SerieschassismakespoweravailabletoattachedPDs:
• Real‐timemode(default),inwhichthePoEcontrollercalculatesthepowerneededbyaPD
basedontheactualpowerconsumptionoftheattacheddevices.
• Classmode,inwhichthePoEcontrollermanagespowerbased
ontheIEEE802.3atdefinition
oftheclasslimitsadvertisedbytheattacheddevices.Inthismode,themaximumamountof
powerrequiredbyadeviceintheadvertisedclassisreservedfortheport,regardlessofthe
actualamountofpowerbeingusedbythedevice.
