3. The [Start] window appears and [Yes] is selected; press the Enter key to start the
test. The [PV Test] screen appears and shows the message "Starting PV Test
Process. Press any key to escape."
Note: If the terminal unit is not idle when the test is initiated, the screen displays
"Ignored: MES is not idle."
4. Long-press the Esc key to return to the standby display.
5. The (automatic) testing sequence is as follows:
1) The screen displays "Current State: IDLE (PENDING)" when you receive the
acknowledge signal from the NCS.
2) When preparations for testing have been completed, "Current State: TEST-
ING" appears at the bottom of the screen. Further, the message "Automatic
test mode: Normal communication disabled. Do not press any distress button
unless you are in distress." appears.
3) Receive a message from the LES. Send a test message to the LES.
4) Then, the distress alert test is automatically conducted after you have sent a
test message. Do not operate the equipment at this time.
5) When testing has been completed, "Current State: IDLE" appears at the bot-
tom of the screen.
10.3.3 How to show the PV test results
1. Press the F7, 8 and 2 keys to show the PV test results.
2. Long-press the Esc key to return to the standby display.
How to read the PV test results
Test Date & Time: Date and time of test
Attempts: Number of times the PV test was conducted.
BBER: Bulletin Board Error Rate (%). "Pass" appears for no error.
Shore-to-Ship Attempts: Number of tests initiated by LES.
Ship-to-Shore Attempts: Number of tests initiated by MES.
Distress Alert: "Pass (Test OK)" appears for successful testing.
Signal Strength: "Pass" appears if signal strength is greater than standard level.
Overall Result: "Pass" appears for satisfactory completion of the test.
