Chapter 5: Configuring the Ripple-2 Node
Configuring the Pebble-2 module
The Pebble-2 module is configured remotely from the CableOS CORE server. You must supply the
operator with the Pebble-2 MAC address, which can be read from the QRC code pasted to the front of the
Pebble-2 module.
The Pebble-2 automatically receives its IP address from a DHCP server. Therefore the network operators
must make sure the CRE connections to the Pebble-2 are routed to a DHCP server.
Once the Pebble-2 has obtained its IP address, the CableOS CORE server establishes GCP control
of Pebble-2. Once GCP control is established, the CORE server is then configured further to manage
the Pebble R-PHY with DOCSIS 3.1 initialization of Cable Modems (CMs) and Customer Premises
Equipment (CPE).
This topic also contains a short summary of Pebble-2 default configuration parameters.
Pebble-2 default configuration parameters
• 10G Eth-1 port is active and configured to dynamically acquire its IP-address via a DHCP server
• The Pebble-2 DS RF output connects directly to the RF tray board with a coaxial cable
• The CableOS CORE server operator can configure the Pebble-2 to output a combination of 158 SC-
QAMs or up to six OFDM 192 MHz channels
• The RF tray DS channel connection to all four ports (P1, P2, P3, P4) is controlled by the CableOS
CORE server
1. With a Quick Response (QR) reader, scan the QR code matrix printed on the label glued to the
Pebble-2 module to get the Pebble-2 MAC address; give the MAC address to the CableOS CORE
operator.
Result:
A text message appears showing the MAC address in the DM (Device MAC) row. In this example, the
MAC address is 00:20:A3:24:99:B6:
{ "DT":"rpd",
"DM":"00:20:A3:24:99:B6",
"VN":"HARMONIC",
"SN":"105171900048",
"MN":"COS-PBL1-2US-HR01",
"HW":"01"}
2. The CableOS operators perform the Pebble-2 configuration with DOCSIS parameters with these
operations described in the CableOS Core Getting Started Guide:
◦ Set the DOCSIS Side Interface (DSI) CRE IP address
◦ Set the DSI vlan
◦ Create a bundle (CM, CPEs, etc.) and assign it to a VLAN
◦ Configure Pebble-2
◦ Configure downstream ports
◦ Configure MAC domain
◦ Configure upstream ports
◦ Configure fiber node
◦ Set GCP server IP address (enables the Core to manage the node)
