Chapter 4: Installing the Ripple-2 Node
Grounding the Ripple-2 Node housing
The Ripple-2 node requires sufficient earth grounding to operate properly and to meet local electrical
codes. Grounding also prevents damage from voltage surges or lightning strikes.
Always make sure you are meeting national and local electrical codes when grounding the node.
Grounding wire requirement
• Minimum 14AWG, #4 ground wire (not provided by Harmonic)
• Ground the node using one of these methods:
◦ If you have installed the node with any strand installation, use one of the screw holes on the
underside of the housing to ground the node (denoted by ground symbol). The bolt thread size is
5/16-18 UNC.
◦ If you have installed the node with any strand installation, attach the ground wire to the strand with
a clamp attached between the two messenger-cable clamps.
◦ If you have used the underside screw holes to install the node on a wall or pedestal, use one of the
now vacated screw holes normally used for strand installation to ground the node.
Closing the Ripple-2 Node housing
It is critical to strictly follow these instructions to close the Ripple-2 node housing after installing its internal
components in order to prevent current or future damage to the node's internal components.
It is critical to secure the bolts in the order prescribed in the procedure; the tightening sequence is also
embossed on the housing lid flange on the side of each bolt.
