Chapter 1
Introduction to the Ripple-2 Node
The Ripple-2 node is a hardened outdoor enclosure and is part of the CableOS
®
software-based CCAP
system and supports IP-based data, video and voice services, with optional support for legacy video
services.
The Ripple-2 node is designed to serve three main applications:
• Remote PHY DOCSIS node
• Remote FTTx Switch (PON)
• DOCSIS/FTTx Hybrid node
The Ripple-2 node features redundant AC power inputs and can be ordered with a single power supply. In
addition, the Ripple-2 node provides support for the following high-availability options:
• Single power supply plus a Buoy power backup module that provides excellent power protection
during short duration AC power interruptions to the node, effectively keeping the node "alive" through
such outages, and maximizing up-time.
• Dual power supplies
All configuration of the Ripple-2 node is by remote access and all configuration settings are stored in
non-volatile memory onboard, allowing for plug-and-play maintenance, and replacement of all interior
modules. A newly installed replacement component automatically receives the replaced component's
configuration.
The Ripple-2 node enclosure can house:
• One Pebble-2 module (Remote PHY Device (RPD)
• One or two Jetty-1 remote switches
• One Pebble-2 RPD and one Jetty-1 remote switch
