Chapter 5: Configuring the Ripple-2 Node
Configuring the forward direction
The forward direction is DS (downstream). Configuration is performed from the CableOS CORE server.
The forward direction has these configuration options:
• Unsegmented: DS1 or DS2 RF input ports (on the RF launch amplifier) are connected to all four RF
input ports: P1, P2, P3 and P4
• Segmented: DS1 input port is connected to RF input ports P1 and P2; DS2 input port connected to RF
input ports P3 and P4
• Run variations of this command: admin@CableOS> set rpn <rpn-id> forward-seg [rpd1-
l-rpd2-r|rpd1-lr|rpd2-lr]
Parameter Description
<rpn-id> Ripple node ID:
◦ <ddd.ddd.ddd.ddd> = Selects RPD by dotted decimal IPv4 address
◦ <hhhh.hhhh.hhhh> = Selects RPD by 48-bit MAC address
◦ rpd-vcvs-addr [CC:SS] = Virtual slot
rpd1-l-rpd2-r
◦ rpd1 = Pebble-2 installed in slot 1
◦ l = left
rpd1-lr
◦ rpd1 = Pebble-2 installed in slot 1
◦ lr = left and right
Segmentation Command
◦ DS1
◦ Unsegmented: P1,
P2, P3, P4
◦ 1x4 configuration
set rpn <rpn-id> forward-seg rpd1-lr
Configuring the return direction
The return direction is US (upstream). Configuration is performed from the CableOS CORE server.
The US ports of a Pebble-2 module installed in slot 1 are US1 and US2.
Guidelines
RF ports P1 and P2 receive the same DS signal, so the return signals from P1 and P2 should be directed
to the same Pebble-2 module. RF ports P3 and P4 receive the same DS signal, so the return signals from
P3 and P4 should be directed to the Pebble-2 module. Therefore, P1 and P2 can be directed to US1/US2
(Pebble-2 module in slot 1).
When a single Pebble-2 module with two US inputs (US1 and US2) is used, you can implement cable-
modem balancing by combining any of the Ripple node RF ports to Pebble-2 US1 port, and combining the
other node ports to the Pebble-2 US2 port.
