3.13.1 Establishing the Configuration Task
Before configuring IP FRR for the private network, familiarize yourself with the applicable
environment, pre-configuration tasks, and required data. This can help you complete the
configuration task quickly and accurately.
Applicable Environment
VPN IP FRR is applicable to the IP services that are sensitive to packet loss and delay on a VPN.
When the next hop of the primary route from a PE to a CE becomes unreachable, traffic can be
quickly switched to another link after VPN IP FRR is configured. This feature prevents
interruption of IP services.
Pre-configuration Tasks
Before configuring IP FRR of private network, complete the following tasks:
l Configuring the routing protocol on the router to enable the connectivity between network
devices
l Setting up the VPN network
l Generating two unequal-cost routes by configuring different metrics

To configure the IP FRR of private network, you need the following data.

3.13.2 Configuring Manual IP FRR in a Private Network
You can designate a backup next hop (a CE) to redirect the VPN traffic to the backup CE When
the next hop of the primary route from a PE to a CE becomes unreachable.
