5.4 SFU(CR52-SFUD)
This section describes the functions of the Switch Fabric Unit (SFU).
The SFU supports fast data exchange for the system, and works in 3+1 load balancing mode.
The SFUs support traffic switching at line speed of 640 Gbit/s (160 Gbit/s x 4).
An SFU consists of the following units:
Power unit
It provides power for the SFU.
Crossbar unit
The crossbar unit, which provides large-capacity cross connection capability, connects
all LPUs, and supports arbitration.
Monitoring unit
It detects the voltage and temperature. It can also provide protection against overvoltage,
overcurrent, and overheat.
Central processing unit (CPU)
It performs the configuration and maintenance of the MPU.
On the NE40E, two SFUs are independent and another two SFUs are integrated on the SRUs.
5.4.1 Overview
As the switching unit of the NE40E-8, the SFUs, with high-speed ASIC chips, use the
non-blocking switching structure to exchange data. The two independent SFUs and another
two SFUs integrated on the SRUs perform load balancing in 3+1 backup mode for switching
traffic at line speed of 640 Gbit/s.
