Removing the server top cover
This information provides instructions for removing the top cover.
About this task
Before you install optional hardware devices, make sure that the server is working
correctly. Start the server and make sure that the operating system starts (if an
operating system is installed) or that a 19990305 error code is displayed, indicating
that an operating system was not found but the server is otherwise working
correctly. If the server is not working correctly, see Chapter 4, “Troubleshooting,”
on page 163.
To remove the server top cover, complete the following steps:
Procedure
1. Read the safety information and installation guidelines, see “Safety” on page vii
and “Installation guidelines” on page 35.
2. Turn off the server and all attached peripheral devices. Disconnect all power
cords; then, disconnect all external cables from the server.
3. If the server has been installed in a rack, slide the server out from the rack
enclosure.
4. Press in on the blue tab on the cover-release latch and lift the cover-release
latch up (the cover slides to the rear). Lift the cover off the server and set it
aside.
