Installing an adapter
This information provides an overview of the adapters that server supports, the
slots in which to install the adapter, and other notes about installing adapters in
the server.
About this task
The following notes describe the types of adapters that the server supports and
other information that you must consider when you install an adapter:
v To confirm that the server supports the adapter that you are installing, see
http://www.ibm.com/systems/info/x86servers/serverproven/compat/us/.
v Locate the documentation that comes with the adapter and follow those
instructions in addition to the instructions in this section.
v The server does not support any high-definition video-out connector or stereo
connector on any add-on video adapter.
v The server does not support PCI-X adapters or legacy 5 V PCI adapters.
v Disconnect the power cords from the power source before you remove or install
any adapter or riser card.
v The server supports two optional Ethernet adapters that you can purchase: the
IBM dual-port 10Gb SFP (fiber) Ethernet adapter and the IBM dual-port 10Gb-T
(copper) Ethernet adapter. For more information, see Table 17 on page 72).
