Installing an optional CD/DVD drive
This information provides instructions for installing a CD/DVD drive in the server.
About this task
To install an optional CD/DVD drive, complete the following steps:
Procedure
1. Read the safety information and installation guidelines, see “Safety” on page vii
and “Installation guidelines” on page 35.
2. Turn off the server (see “Turning off the server” on page 22) and all attached
peripheral devices. Disconnect all power cords; then, disconnect all external
cables from the server.
3. Remove the top cover (see “Removing the server top cover” on page 38).
4. Locate the blue release tab on the rear of the CD/DVD drive bay; then, while
you press the tab, push the CD/DVD filler toward the front of the server.

5. Pull the CD/DVD drive filler out of the front of the server.
6. Touch the static-protective package that contains the new optical drive to any
unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove the optical drive from the
package and place it on a static-protective surface.
7. Remove the retention clip from the side of the drive filler.
Note: If you are installing a drive that contains a laser, observe the following
safety precaution.
