Operation
This section gives information on operating your ED40.
USB Operation
The ED40 will operate at high speed when connected to a USB 2.0 high speed
host. If you connect the ED40 to a USB 1.1 full speed host, it will operate in full
speed however Windows will notify you that the device can operate at a higher
speed.
By default the USB cable mode is Virtual COM. When connecting the ED40 to
the host in this mode for the first time you will be prompted to download the
driver. The driver is available in Knowledge Central on the Intermec website.
To download the USB virtual COM driver:
1 Go to http://intermec.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12516
2 Download the driver and instructions.
3 Follow the installation procedure provided in Knowledge Central.
USB and Video Streaming
Intermec imagers support the USB video device class so you can streamline video
as if the imager was a webcam. This is a composite USB class that combines UVC
and VCP.
You can activate video streaming by changing the USB cable mode.
ISCP Configuration Over USB Keyboard HID
When using the USB Keyboard HID cable mode, all ISCP configuration
commands are supported. You will need the ISCP implementation DLL that is
part of the Intermec Scan Engine Software Development Kit (SDK). Contact your
Intermec OEM representative for more information.
Hibernate Mode
Hibernate mode is used to decrease power consumption without turning the
imager off.
You can activate hibernate mode by sending an ISCP control command from the
host (see the ISCP documentation available from your Intermec sales
representative). When in hibernate mode, there are two ways to wake up the
ED40:
Press the trigger (contact 3 = 0)
Host sends one byte to the imager (this byte is discarded)
Power consumption in hibernate mode depends on the imager used. See the
appendix for your imager for more information.
Hibernate mode is not supported with the USB interface.
