Chapter 5 — Firmware Download
42 ED40 Decode Board Integration Guide
Downloading Firmware
This section describes the download process including these topics:
• Initializing download mode
• Baud rate auto-detection
• Downloading the flash driver
• Types of firmware download files
• Using the firmware download commands
Initializing Download Mode
You can initialize download mode through hardware or software. Initializing
through hardware allows you to use the recovery procedure if the firmware
download is unsuccessful. The only way to recover the imager is through a
firmware download hardware initialization.
Hardware Initialization in an RS-232 Interface
These host hardware conditions are required before power-up:
• Detect In 0 and Detect In 1 high level
• Host TXD line high level
• Trigger line high or not connected
At power-up (low level on power enable), the imager detects the high levels on
contacts Detect In 0 and Detect In 1 and enters firmware download mode.
Hardware Initialization in a USB Interface
These host hardware conditions are required before power-up:
• Detect In 2 and Detect In 0 high level
• Trigger line high or not connected
• Detect In 1 low level
At power-up (low level on power enable), the imager detects the high levels on
contacts Detect In 2 and Detect In 0 and enters firmware download mode.
Software Initialization
You can initialize the download mode using one of these methods:
Hardware Initialization for Firmware Download
Interface Tri gg er Detect In 2/RTS Detect In 1 Detect In 0
RS-2321x11
USB (virtual
COM)
1101
If you use software initialization only and the firmware download is not
successful, you cannot recover the imager. The ONLY way to recover the
imager is by firmware download hardware initialization.
