4. Power on the device. You can start performing inial soware conguraon on the device aer the
device is up.
NOTE: Aer you complete the inial conguraon, you can connect your device to a network
for out-of-band management as described in "Connect Your Device to a Network for Out-of-
Band Management" on page 63 .
Congure Root Authencaon and Management Interface from the CLI
You must perform the inial conguraon of the device through the console port.
Gather the following informaon before conguring the device:
Root authencaon
IP address of the management interface
Default route
To congure root authencaon and the management interface:
1. Log in as root. There is no password.
2. Start the CLI and enter conguraon mode.
root@% cli
root@>configure
root@#
3. Set the root authencaon password. You can enter a cleartext password, an encrypted password, or
an SSH public key string (DSA or RSA).
