10.11. Basic information on drift
Drift is the term used when small droplets are carried outside of the area sprayed.
Drift leads to:
-damagetonearbyfaunaandora(soil,water,air)
-lesseffectivetreatmentoftheplotsprayed
-risksofdamagetoneighbouringcrops
-extracostscausedbywastedproduct.
Driftcanbecausedbythefollowing:
-excessivesprayspeed
-highairtemperature
-lowhygrometry
-excessivespraypresure
-unsuitablesprayheight
-toosmalldroplets
-highwindspeed
Driftcanbereducedusinganti-driftnozzles,butmainly:
-bykeepingtheself-propelledmachinecleanatalltimes
-bycleaningandcheckingthesatisfactoryoperationofnozzles
-byadjustingtheheightoftheboomstothenozzlesused(seetheinstructionsofthenozzlemanufacturer)
-byselectingtherightnozzlefortheapplication
-byadaptingsprayspeed
-bytreatinginoptimisedtemperatureandhygrometryconditions(morning,evening)
-byadjustingspraypressure
Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer of the phytosanitary product in all events.
10.12. Winter storage
◦Drain the rinsing tank
◦Drain the hand washer tank
◦Drain the windscreen wiper tank
◦After rinsing the main tank, the boom and all circuits,
drain the main tank by spraying and set the main tank
bottom solenoid valve to the residual volume suction
position.
◦Reduce engine power
◦Disengage the pump
◦Clean all filters (suction and sections)
◦Place at least 50 litres of anti-freeze in the main tank
◦Lower the mixing hopper
◦Set valves to position 2 A, engage the pump with the
engine set to idle and then increase to mid-power
◦Run the container rinser and then rinse the mixing
hopper inlet
◦Reduce engine power
◦Disengage the pump
◦Set valves to position 3 A, engage the pump with the engine set to idle, and then increase to mid-power for 1
min.
