5 Delivering a Bolus of Insulin
If you want to cancel or replace a bolus, see "Altering an Ongoing Bolus" on page
51.
To add an informational tag to the BG value used for this bolus, see "Tagging the
Blood Glucose Results" on page 45.
Manually-calculated Bolus
If the Bolus Calculator is disabled or turned o, you must calculate a bolus amount
yourself. is is called a manually-calculated bolus.
To deliver a manually-calculated bolus:
1. Measure your blood glucose. If using a separate BG meter, follow the
instructions included with your BG meter. If you used the built-in BG meter,
skip to step 4. For more information, see "Checking Your Blood Glucose" on
page 35.
2. Calculate the combined correction and meal bolus.
3. Navigate to the bolus screen:
Home > Bolus
4. Enter your calculated bolus amount:
• Use the Up/Down button to enter the bolus amount, then press Enter.
• Or, if you have dened one or more bolus presets, either (1) select a bolus
preset, or (2) select [enter manually], use the Up/Down button to enter
the desired bolus amount, and press Enter.
To create a bolus preset, see "Bolus presets" on page 76.
Note: You can only give a bolus at or below the Maximum Bolus you have
set. See "Maximum Bolus" on page 75 for information on resetting your
Maximum Bolus. Consult your healthcare provider before changing this
setting.
5. To deliver the entire bolus immediately, press Enter, and skip to step 7. (See
"Immediate and Extended Boluses" on page 143 for more information):
6. To extend the delivery of part or all of a meal bolus:
a. Press Extend.
b. Use the Up/Down button to enter the amount or percent of the bolus to
deliver immediately. Press Enter.
c. Use the Up/Down button to enter the length of time for the extended
portion. Press Enter.
