ThePWB’softhis model employs lead-free solder. The “LF”marksindicated on thePWB’s andtheService Manual mean “Lead-Free” solder.
LEAD-FREE SOLDER
The alphabetfollowingtheLFmark shows the kind of lead-free solder.
(1) NOTE FOR THE USE OF LEAD-FREE SOLDER THREAD
When repairingalead-free solder PWB,use lead-free solder thread.
Never use conventionallead solder thread, which may cause abreakdownoran accident.
Since the melting-point of lead-free solder thread is about 40°C higher than that ofconventionallead solder thread, the use ofthe
exclusive-use soldering iron is recommended.
(2) NOTE FOR SOLDERING WORK
Since the melting-point of lead-free solder is about 220°C,which is about 40°C higher than that ofconventionallead solder, and its soldering
capacityisinferior to conventional one, it is apt to keepthe soldering iron in contact with thePW
B for longer time. This may cause land
separation or mayexceedthe heat-resistive temperature ofcomponents. Use enough care toseparate the soldering iron fromthePWB when
completion of soldering is confirmed.
Sincelead-free solder in
cludes agreater quantityoftin, the iron tipmay corrodeeasily. Turn ON/OFF the soldering iron power frequently.
Ifdifferent-kind solder remains on the soldering iron tip, it is meltedtogether with lead-free solder. To avoidthis, clea
n the soldering iron
tip after completion of solderingwork.
Ifthe soldering iron tip is discoloredblack during solderingwork, clean andfile the tipwith steel wool or afine filer.
