Preparing the Optical Fibers
The work for preparing the optical fibers involves:
- Stripping the coating
- Cleaning the fibers
- Preparing the end faces (e.g. with cleaver FBC-005)
Refer to the operating instructions accompanying your cleaver.
- Assessing the end faces (monitor)
Stripping
To perform stripping, you will need a special fiber stripping tool, (e.g. stripping tool for
optical fibers 0.18 / 0.30 mm 3205004-01.
Use this tool to strip off the coating over a length of a few centimeters (depending on
the cleaver used).

Cleaning
Clean the end of the fiber (coating and uncoated fibers) over a length of approx. 10 cm.
Do this by wiping the fibers several times vigorously with a cleaning cloth soaked in
alcohol.
Use only lint-free cleaning cloths and isopropyl alcohol.
Cleaving
Perform cleaving in accordance with the cleaver operating instructions so as to obtain
the following cleave lengths:
