5. Carefully replace the relay front panel on the
relay chassis. Install and tighten the
front-panel retaining screws with a Phillips
screwdriver.
6. Reenergize the relay. Set the relay date and
time using the front-panel Set Relay\Date and
Set Relay\Time functions.
10.6 Firmware Upgrade
Installation
Siemens may occasionally offer firmware
upgrades to improve the performance of your
relay. Since the SIMPRO-100 Relay stores
firmware in flash memory, changing physical
components is not necessary. Upgrade the relay
firmware by downloading a file from a personal
computer to the relay via the front-panel serial
port as outlined in the following sections.
10.6.1 Required Equipment
Personal computer
SIMPRO-PC software or terminal emulation
software that supports XMODEM/CRC
protocol (i.e. ProComm Plus™, Relay Gold™,
Microsoft Windows‚ Terminal™, Smartcom™,
and Crosstalk™)
Serial communications cable (SIM-232 or
equivalent, or a null-modem cable)
Disk containing firmware upgrade file
10.6.2 Upgrade Instructions
The instructions below assume you have a
working knowledge of your personal computer
terminal emulation software. In particular, you
must be able to modify your serial
communications parameters (baud rate, data bits,
parity, etc.), select transfer protocol
(i.e. XMODEM/CRC), and transfer files (i.e. send
and receive binary files).
1. If the relay is in service, open its motor control
circuits.
2. Connect the personal computer to the
front-panel serial port and enter Access
Level 2.
3. If you do not already have copies of the
Relay, Port, and SER settings, download all
the settings using the SIMPRO-PC software,
or issue the following commands to retrieve
the settings: SHO, SHO P F, SHO P R, and
SHO R.
Normally, the relay will preserve the settings
during the firmware upgrade. However, if the
new firmware version includes more settings
than the old version, you will have to reenter
your old settings.
4. Set your communication connection to the
highest possible baud rate. The relay will
support speeds up to 19200 baud. Use the
SET P command to change the SPEED
setting to the desired baud rate.
5. Issue the L_D <ENTER> command to the
relay (L underscore D <ENTER>).
6. Type Y <ENTER> to the

prompt and
Y <ENTER> to the

prompt. The relay will send the
