2-16-9 Calibration work
Perform calibration using the calibration ball, according to the following
procedure.
It is recommended that calibration be carried out in a location where the waves
are gentle, there is little suspended matter such as plankton, and the water
depth is about 40 m or more.
2-16-9-1 Preparation
Prepare the necessary items shown in the table below.
Table 2-9 Necessary items for performing calibration work
A biaxial (bait) reel around which at least 100 m of
the below-mentioned line can be wound, and which
has an indicator which indicates the distance that the
line is paid out
Fishing line to be
wound around reel
A No. 5 or No. 6 PE line which is marked every 1 m
A holder that can be fixed to the ship, and which can
fix a fishing rod
Prepare two 38.1 mm diameter balls.
Weight for
calibration ball
Prepare a 54.1 mm diameter calibration ball or a
fishing weight of between about 500 g and 1500 g.
Fishing line for
calibration ball
A No. 5 or No. 6 fluorocarbon fishing line for making
a net to hold the calibration ball
A CTD which enables the salinity and water
temperature of a CTD, for example, to be observed
One for avoiding the bottom of the ship, and one for
lowering the CTD
At least two workers are required.
