NOTE: As with all sterilization methods, proper cleaning of instruments and devices is a critical and necessary
step prior to sterilization. All items must be thoroughly cleaned, rinsed and dried before loading into the
Sterilization Unit. Carefully inspect all instruments and devices for cleanliness, dryness, flaws and damage prior
to packaging. If visual soil or moisture is present, clean and dry load again. If any damage is discovered, item
must be replaced or repaired before using. Items processed in the Fast Non Lumen cycle can only pouched or
placed in pouched trays.
4. Place load on shelf and slide shelf back into chamber. Ensure shelves are completely inside chamber before
closing door.
NOTE: When placing load in the Sterilizer, note the following:
a. Do NOT stack trays.
b. If using pouches, these can either be placed on the shelf alone or in an organizer. Leave sufficient space around
each item and chamber walls to ensure optimal diffusion of vapor throughout the load.
c. Never place liquids, linen, powders, paper, towels, wood applicators or any other cellulosic material in the
Sterilizer.
d. Maximum allowable load per shelf is 42 lb (19.0 kg).
e. The Sterilizer validation studies were performed as follows:
Non Lumen Cycle load weight of 50 lb (22.7 kg).
Fast Non Lumen Cycle load weight of 11 lb (5.0 kg).
Lumen Cycle load weight of 19.65 lb (9.0 kg). Also, 20 lumens were included in the load.
Flexible Cycle load weight of 24 lb (11.0 kg).
f. Ensure loads placed into the Sterilizer do not exceed stated weight, packaging or lumens (number, size or type)
depending on the Sterilization Cycle chosen.
g. To reduce wear on sterile packaging, STERIS recommends that the shelf is slid out, load placed on shelf, then slide
shelf and load back into chamber.
5. Close chamber door. Sterilization Unit is now ready to run a processing cycle. See VHP Sterilization Cycle
Operation Section for instructions on running the cycle.
