II . Remove the carburetor as described under
Carburetor Remomll/nsralfalioll in Chapter Seven.
12 . Drain the engine oil as described under Engine
Oil and Filter Change in Chapter Three.
NOTE
Do 110/ disconnect the decompression
iel'er cable from the lel'er.
1 3. Remove the screws (A . • "igure IS ) securing the
automatic decompression cable mouming bracket.
Unh oo k the cable end from the lever (B . • "ig ur e
15) and move the cable and mounting bracket oul
of the way.
14 . R emove the gearshift linkage as described
under Gearshift Linkage Rem Ol'(iI ! ln stallatiQn in
Chapler Six.
15 . Remove the drive belt and drive bell pulley (A.
Figure 16) as described under Driw! Pulley and
Drive Belt Remom l/ /lIsraflotion in Chapler Ten.
16 . Refer \0 the fo ll owing figu res and disconnect
the
fo ll owi ng electrical conneClOrs:
a. Fi g ur e 17: alternalOr stator (3-pin electrical
co nnector containing 3 yellow wires).
b. Fig ur e 18 : neutral indicator (I-pin electrical
co nnector containing 1 blue wire).
c. Fig ur e 19 : sig nal generator (2-pin electrical
connector containing 2 wires.

green wi re) and the sidestand indicator (2-pin
electrical connector containing

and
I black/white wire).

17. If the engine is going to be disassembled.

followi ng parts while the engine is still
in the frame. Remove the following as described
in this chapter un less otherwise noted:
a. Alternator and starter (Chapter Seven).
b. Clutch assembly {Chapter Five).
c. External shift mechanism (Chapter Six).
