IfoptionMUisinstalledthencertainmeasurementsandactivitiescanbesharedbetweentwoormoreXT2640instruments.This
providesthefollowingcapabilities–
Upto1000XT2640smaybeinterconnectedusingthiscapability.
TheSYNCmeasurementmodewhichallowsVPAswithinasingleXT2640tohavesynchronousmeasurementstartingand
period(seesection12.4.1)isextendedtoaccomplishthisamongmultipleXT2640sconfiguredusingthismeasurementmode.
AllXT2640smeasurementscanbeheldorreleasedsimultaneouslyfromanyXT2640.
AllXT2640sintegrationscanbestartedand/orstoppedfromanyXT2640.
AllXT2640shistoricaldatacollectioncanbestartedorstoppedsimultaneouslyfromanyXT2640.
AllXT2640ssharetheirIN,MIDandOUTpowertotalsanddisplaythetotalofallXT2640sandshowtheoverallsystem
efficiencydata.
AnyVPAinanyXT2640canmakeits’fundamentalavailabletoanyotherVPA(s)inanyotherXT2640(s)byusingoneofthe3
availableglobalfundamentalfrequencies.
21.1 INTERCONNECTINGMULTIPLEXT2640S
XT2640swithoptionMUperformtheseabilitiesbycommunicatingwitheachotherviatheirLANinterfaces.Youdonotneedtobe
usingtheLANinterfaceforcommunicatingwiththeunitsviaacomputerasthatcanbeaccomplishedusingadifferentinterfaceif
desired,ortherecanbenointerfacingtoacomputer.
21.1.1 INTERCONNECTINGNOTUSINGTHELANINTERFACEWITHACOMPUTER
InthiscasetheindividualXT2640sshouldtypicallybeconfiguredtousetheAUTO‐IPLANinterfacemode.Thisallowstheindividual
instrumentstodeterminetheirownIPaddressesanddiscovereachotherautomatically.
Note:
Ifonly2XT2640saretobeinterconnectedthensimplyuseastandardLANcable(CAT5erecommended)betweentheLANports
oftheXT2640swithoutconnectingthemtoanetwork.Across‐overcableisnotrequired,butmaybeusedifdesired.
Ifmorethan2XT2640saretobeinterconnectedthenaswitchorhubmustbeused,witheachXT2640LANportconnectedto
portsonthatswitchorhub.Insituationswhereagreatmanyunitsaretobeinterconnectedthenmultipleswitchesorhubs
maybeused.
TheindividualXT2640scanbeconnectedtoeachotherviaanexistingnetworkifdesired.Allsuchinstrumentsmustbevisible
toeachotheronthatnetwork.InthiscaseitmaybedesirabletouseDHCPorFIXEDIPLANmodesinsteadofAUTO‐IP.
21.1.2 INTERCONNECTINGWHILEALSOUSINGTHELANINTERFACESWITH A
COMPUTER
InthiscasetheXT2640scommunicatewitheachotherovertheLANnetworktowhicheachunitisconnectedusingwhateverLAN
configurationisrequiredforthenetwork.Allsuchinstrumentsmustbevisibletoeachotheronthatnetwork.
Note:
TheXT2640scommunicatewitheachotherusingUDPport10734,suchtrafficmustbeabletobecommunicatedbetweenthe
XT2640sthroughanyintermediaterouters.TheXT2640usesIGMPtoattempttomanageanyrouters,managedswitches,or
“snooping”switches,toallowthetransmissionofsuchtraffic.
21.1.3 HAVING SEVERALGROUPSOFXT2640SWITHINASINGLENETWORK
EachXT2640canbeconfiguredtooperateitsmulti‐unitcapabilitieswithinadefinedgroupnumber.Thisisconfiguredbyyouon
theMulti‐UnitConfigurationScreen(seebelow)andcanbeanynumericvaluebetween0and255inclusive.Thereisnoparticular
significancetothegroupnumberotherthanonlyXT2640sconfiguredforthesamegroupnumberprovidethemultipleunit
capabilities.Eachgroupmayhaveupto1000members,andtheremaybe256suchgroups,sothemaximumnumberofXT2640s
whichcanbeconnectedtothesameLANsegmentis256,000.
21.2 CONFIGURINGMULTI UNITCAPABILITY
EachXT2640usedwithinaninterconnectedmulti‐unitgroupneedstobeconfiguredforwhichgroupnumbertheyareamemberof,
andwhichglobalfundamentaldata(ifany)isbeingprovidedbyeachVPAintheXT2640.ThisachievedbyusingtheMULTI‐UNIT
buttonfromtheInterfaceconfigurationscreenasfollows–
PresstheInterfaceinformationareaonmostscreenstoaccesstheInterfaceConfigurationscreen.
PresstheMULTI‐UNITbuttonatthetopofthisscreentoaccesstheMulti‐UnitConfigurationscreen(anexampleofthisscreenis
shownbelow).
EitherturnOFFmulti‐unitcapabilities,orturnthemONandselectthemulti‐unitgroupnumberusingtheOFF/GROUPnbutton
atthetopofthisscreen.
ForeachconfiguredVPAwithinthisXT2640youcanselectforthatVPAfundamentaltobeprovidedgloballytoallXT2640s
withinthemulti‐unitgroupbyselectingthatitbeprovidedtoallunitsastheGFUND1,GFUND2orGFUND3data.Note–
o OnlyasingleunitandasingleVPAwithinthatunitcanprovidedatatoanygivenGFUNDdata.
