Particle filter regeneration
Before starting the particle filter regeneration, the following requirements must
first be met:
Diesel particle filter
• The diesel particle filter undergoes a continuous regeneration process, which
is activated as soon as the required exhaust gas temperature is reached at
the system inlet.
• The filter load is constantly monitored.
Level 1:
Heat mode
Activated if: relative carbon black load of more than around 63 %
• If the operating requirements of the machine do not permit passive
regeneration, the filter load will increase. This can result from only very
limited machine use or within a very short space of deployment time.
• In this case, the engine is run in a special ‘heat mode’ while the engine
adjusts to ensure that the regeneration requirements are improved on.
Level 2:
Stoppage
regeneration
Active if: relative carbon black load at > 100 %
• If the heat mode fails to reduce the carbon black load sufficiently, the filter will
keep accumulating carbon black and eventually stoppage regeneration will
be required.
• When stoppage regeneration is requested, the
control light “Particle filter
regeneration” turns on.
• The stoppage regeneration is the last option for regenerating the filter, if all
prior attempts to regenerate the filter have failed.
• For stoppage regeneration, the engine activates special operating conditions,
so the machine may not be used during active stoppage regeneration.
• During active stoppage regeneration, high exhaust gas temperatures will be
recorded.
• The engine is set to a specific speed, which cannot be changed by the operator.
Engine exhaust train protection system
• If the filter loads goes above its nominal value and it is not regenerated, it may
lead to the destruction of the filter and even the engine. For this reason, the
engine control unit includes protective functions for the diesel particle filter
system.
• Not including the standard engine protection procedures, there are two
warning stages that are activated depending on the relative carbon black
load.
