Distance To Fault
Mode
Trace/Detector
Accesses the Trace/Detector menu keys. Trace/Detector menu keys allow the user to control
the acquisition, display, storage, detection and manipulation of trace data. The
Trace/Detector keys are for setting up a Distance To Fault measurement. The measurement
must already be running to access these keys. Press
Meas, Distance To Fault to turn on the
measurement.
Select Trace
Selects which trace the menu keys will affect. Press
Select Trace until the number of the
desired trace is underlined. Only 2 traces are available in the Stimulus Response mode
(compare to 4 traces in the Spectrum Analyzer Mode). Note as well that in the “Distance to
Fault” measurement, there is only one trace being generated, so if both are active using
the “Update On/Off” feature described below, they will contain identical data and the one
on top will hide the bottom one (only one will be seen, but both are there). The purpose of
the “Trace/Detector” feature in this measurement is allow to an A/B comparison. For
instance, you could store one set of measurement results in Trace 2 (Turn ON first the
“Update” parameter of this Trace 2 to get the results then turning back OFF this “Update”
parameter to store the results) and then compare it with set of measurement results
display by Trace 1 (Set the “Update” parameter of the Trace 1 to ON).
Update On/Off (View)
This key lets you turn
Off active trace updating. That is, make it an inactive trace (or a
stored trace). This does not affect whether the trace is visible or not. Use the
Display
Show/Blank key to change its visibility.
When a trace becomes inactive, the following things happen:
Updates to the trace stop after the current sweep is complete.
The trace is displayed at half intensity (as long as it stays inactive)
Inactive traces display across the entire x axis of the instrument. Their horizontal
