Procedure
To install the lightning surge suppressor:
1. Determine where the suppressor is to be installed. The normal location is just
inside the building.
2. Trim the cable from the ODU at the point where the suppressor is to be installed.
Terminate the cable with the correct shielded RJ-45 connector, using the correct
crimp tool, and connect to the antenna side of the suppressor.
3. Connect the suppressor to the IDUspe using the jumper cable. Trim the cable to the
required length and fit the correct shielded J-45 connector, using the correct crimp
tool for a shielded RJ-45 connector, and connect to IDU side of the suppressor.
For information on the correct crimp tool to use on the ODU cable
and on the jumper cable, refer to Installing ODUspe Cable and
Connectors on page 12.
4. Fit the lugged end of the ground wire to the suppressor using the nuts and washers
supplied.
5. Trim the other end of the ground wire so there is a little slack in the wire when it is
connected to the ground point. Fit a crimp lug and bolt to the ground point.

Weatherproofing the ODU Cable Connector
The ODU cable connector is a weatherized connector designed for outdoor use, but
must be wrapped to maximize long term resistance against UV radiation and general
exposure.
The connector is wrapped using rolls of butyl mastic and vinyl tape supplied with the
cable ground kits.
Because of the tight fit of the connector assembly against the body of the ODU, the
wrapping procedure requires special attention to ensure there is no potential for
water ingress at this point.
The weatherproofing of the ODU cable connector requires special
attention to ensure a weather-tight seal.
