i
The wheel aperture and the manually-operated knife-edge aperture which can be
installed at place A and B (in fig. 5.2) are interchangeable with each other. However, the
apertures which can be installed in place C (in fig. 5.2) are not interchangeable with the

Fig. 5.2 Explanation
A
At this place, the following apertures can be installed:
• manually-operated knife-edge aperture with either transparent or metal
knife edges
• motorized knife-edge aperture with transparent knife edges
• rotatable wheel aperture
The aperture installed at this place is used for narrowing down the sam-
ple area to be measured in transmittance as well as in reflectance.
Note: By default, the manually-operated knife-edge aperture with trans-
parent knife edges is installed at this place.
B
By default, no aperture is installed at this place. If required, however, one
of the following apertures can be installed at this place:
• manually-operated knife-edge aperture with either transparent or metal
knife edges
• rotatable wheel aperture
The aperture installed at this place reduces the diffraction effect of the IR
beam in the reflectance mode only.
C
At this place, the following apertures can be installed:
• rotatable wheel aperture
• manually-operated knife-edge aperture with either transparent or metal
knife edges
The aperture installed at this place reduces the diffraction effect of the IR
beam in the transmittance mode only.
