In transmission mode
In reflection mode
Detector signal cable is not at all or not prop-
erly connected.
Check the cable connections. If required, con-
nected them.
☞ In case of the MCT detector, see section
2.7.5. In case of the FPA detector, See
section 2.7.6.
This problem may also be caused by the FT IR
spectrometer which is coupled to the micro-
scope.
☞ For troubleshooting, refer to the User Man-
ual of the FT IR spectrometer in question.
Possible cause Solution
Iris aperture for setting the Koehler illumination
in transmission mode is closed.
Open the iris aperture for setting the Koehler
illumination in transmission mode (B in
fig. 3.10).
☞ See section 3.7.4.
Condenser is not aligned properly.
Check the condenser setting and correct it, if
required.
☞ See section 4.6.
Sample has a (very) low light transmitting
capacity.
Use a thinner sample or flatten the sample
using a compression cell.
Note: Compression cells are available as
optional component. See section 5.6.
Possible cause Solution
Sample does not reflect light at all or has a
very poor light reflecting capacity.
In search of a sample area with better reflec-
tive characteristics, move the microscope
stage in x- and/or y-direction.
If you do not succeed in finding a reflective
sample area, the sample is not suited sample
viewing in the reflection mode.
