14. Move the stage downwards as far
as it will go. Exchange the plastic ring
for the sample.

15. Bring the ATR crystal in the view-
ing mode position (i.e. upper position).

17. Focus on the sample by moving
the stage slowly upwards.

18. Find a sample area which you
intend to analyze spectroscopically by
moving the stage in x- and/or y-direc-
tion.
